If you're using WIndows 10 then like me, you'll have noticed Dead Rising 2's controller support stopped working with Xbox One controllers a while back with it normally occuring with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
If you've looked it up online then you'll have found a whole bunch of advice and sets of instructions to try and get things working again. The most prominent ones by far involve downloading and using third party software and emulators, of which the most common one is Xbox 360 Controller Emulator, or X360CE.
The chances are unless you're using Windows 8 or a third party control pad like a Dual Shock 4 or others that use Direct Input, this isn't going to help you in the slightest and all it will result in is you throwing unnecessary files into your game install directories that do something whilst essentially doing nothing worthwhile. Dead Rising 2 will not recognise your control pad.
If you haven't already, I would recommend in the Dead Rising 2 main menu, going into Options > PC Settings and setting the Controller option to "Enable". Most of you will have tried this before reading this guide however and the option will be greyed out, set to "Disable", unabled to be changed. It's frustrating, especially so when Dead Rising 2 was built for being used with control pads. The game is perfectly playable with a keyboard and mouse but some stuff feels a bit off and it's one of those games that just doesn't feel right to play using this control method.
You'll be happy to know then, there's a solution and it doesn't require the use of third party software, emulators or drivers and to top it off, it's a fairly quick fix that's easy to follow.
The reason Xbox One controllers don't work with Dead Rising 2 is Microsoft messed up driver support in some games by changing how they are identified without providing legacy support for older games and software that don't know things have changed. They potentially changed some other stuff for XInput as well but essentially for what we care about, Xbox One controllers now go by a different name in Windows 10.
Why Microsoft updated the drivers and changed this is beyond me but there is a fix! Read on below and you should be up and running with full controller support for Dead Rising 2 and pretty much everything else that accepts XInput controllers below!
To solve this problem, you're going to need to download older drivers for your Xbox One controller from Microsoft and put them in place of the current ones.
You may have issues with the Windows 10 Game DVR, using a headset via the control pad and UWP software with the control pad after this, for myself the home button now makes Steam the active window. I haven't played around with things enough to see if this is the case or if Steam is simply taking over while it's running but in either case, a working control pad in games seems like a good tradeoff.
Whatever the case, you can upgrade to the current version of the drivers easily by doing the same thing again only instead of browsing for files, you just tell it to search and install them automatically.
If you are using a generic Direct Input controller, a DualShock 4 or just a third party control pad in general then this guide isn't likely to help you. DualShock 4 has some pretty good software and drivers out there currently that should let it work perfectly as an Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller. If you're using generic Direct Input or other another third party control pad and they don't work, you may need some additional software to get things going.
This guide is specifically for enabling official Xbox One controllers for use in Dead Rising 2 and other games with similar issues running on Windows 10 since the Anniversary Update.
It's been over 2 and a half years since I updated this and it still works for me but I'll try to update sometime soon, At this point though if things aren't working for you then the best option is to open Steam Settings > In-Game and make sure "Use the Big Picture Overlay when using a Steam Input enabled controller from the desktop" is checked.
Maybe to be safe just go into Big Picture mode and check settings there to make sure control pad configs are enabled for your specific control pad (should be by default).
With that option checked it'll launch Big Picture Mode overlay and the extra controller support functionality included with it while a game is running with a control pad connected. You can browse community configs or tell a game a DualShock 4 pad is a 360 one!
Steam BPM is much more accessible and you'l be up and running in a couple of minutes which is a fair bit faster to say the least.

sorry to say, but it doesnt work at all
21 мар. 2015 в 21:20I don't know about it never working at all. my wired 360 controller works perfectly fine with this game.
Like a lot of games you gotta make sure you plug it in before starting the game up. (Not trying to be rude here, but you'd be surprised how many people don't know that so please don't take it the wrong way.)
I don't know what to tell you about the xbox one deal though, I think you'll have to wait for an update from either microsoft or capcom to fix that one.

19 авг. 2017 в 18:57 20 авг. 2017 в 3:29You can get them to work by using an old beta ver of x360ce specifically x360ce.App-2.0.262.
There are some threads w/ links explaining how in the DR2 Off The Record forums.
But yeah Capcom dgaf, They removed the DLC from DR2OTR even tho we paid for it took it out the store, took it out the game, now its back in the store but still missing from game.
12 янв. 2018 в 4:36 Far out this is ridiculous. Can't believe it doesn't have controller support what a joke. 24 янв. 2018 в 16:32 Wired 360 controllers work just fine withoit any need for another program. 14 авг. 2018 в 19:26To anyone encountering this problem. Theres absolutely no need to download any crappy 3rd party program. It is simply steam overriding your controller so the game doesnt recognize it. Go in to steam big picture, then Dead Rising 2, manage game, controller options, and change it to FORCED OFF. Launch game. Done.
As a side note. This works for ANY game where your controller option is "Greyed out". Hope this helps you.

Except this didn't fix the game not recognizing my official Xbox One controller. Nothing has, not even using x360ce. The game refuses to detect any of my controllers, official 360, XB1, Logitech F510, Steelseries, none are recognized by this game. More to the point, this, and the spinoff DR2: Off the Record, are the ONLY games I'm having this problem with. 28 сен. 2018 в 18:16You specifically need x360ce 2.0.2.62 (this is a much OLDER ver btw)
hope this helps Ive have to hunt this ???? down a few times due to re-installs and I never got any controllers working w/o it not even messing w/ big picture mode controller options.
Delete x360ce.ini.
Run x360ce.exe.
Click yes to create x360ce.ini.
Load preset Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows).
Open advanced tab of controller and disable native mode.
Uncheck force feedback.
Click options.
Set FakeWMI to be EnabledUSB.
Set Fake DI to be EnabledCalback.
Check of Fake WIN Trust.
Leave the rest.
Check if your buttons/axes are mapped properly.
Save changes.
Go to PC Settings and enable your controller (it won't be grayed out anymore)
I used 2.1.2.191 is that older or newer? I assume it's a newer version since it didn't work. I also have version 2.0.2.158; would that work?
Edit 2: It also worked for DR2: OTR!

So I've tried this and when I go to open the game in BPM, PC crashes to blue screen. It did this both times I tried. This PC has never gone blue screen before lol. If I change those settings in BPM and open the game normally, the controller area is still greyed out. I remember now why I couldn't play this game years ago when I first bought it on Steam, although that was on a different PC.
